Security, it is big business today and there are a lot of “experts” out there who seem to be in the spotlight, but when you begin to scratch the surface, you find that some of these people have never really worked on the front line and don’t have a lot (if any) practical experience.
Here we go!
I am not one who likes to brag about my skills but I consider myself to be a very experienced generalist who has been in IT for over 20 years. I have been very fortunate in my career to have been exposed to many different facets of IT and security is one facet that I have grown very fond of over the last 10 years.
In my career, I have done everything from repairing computers, systems administration, solutions architecture, front line management, pre-sales engineering, and consulting and everything else in between. While this has been mainly in the infrastructure / security space, in my spare time, I dabble in pen-testing, malware analysis, coding and anything else that I don’t know that interests me.
This has allowed me to have a very diverse perspective and I am able to bridge the gap between business and technical and over time I have made a hell of a lot of mistakes.
By making these mistakes, I have learnt a lot about myself and others and I now want to share my experiences in a hope that I can help people (beginners and experienced) avoid the same mistakes I have made.
This site is a collection of my own personal thoughts, experiences and technical information that I have collected over the years. I am not an expert, I never claim to be one but what I don’t know, I put in the time and effort to find out.
Sit back and relax and enjoy the rants!
